Recession Economics: What Can't You Live Without?
A Pew survey back in 2006 showed what Americans felt were their necessary luxuries (car, TV, air conditioner, computer). That survey was recently re-done, and tech showed surprising strength despite the economy.
The biggest loser is the microwave, far and away, with only 47% naming it as essential— a 21 point drop from 2006. In fact, pretty much everything is seen as far less essential these days, as you'd expect, except our beloved gadgetry.
iPods, flat-screen TVs, and high-speed internet are all seen as more essential than before. Cellphones stayed the same, and computers dropped a mere 1 point. This is in stark contrast to the rest of the items on the list, like air conditioning, cable tv, and dishwasher, which all suffered double-digit drops. The car, of course, is still the top spot, but even it dropped three points.
So, readers, what can't you live without? I'd definitely do without a car before getting rid of my laptop, but maybe that's just me. ( I retract that statement, I need both my laptop and car, can't choose between them !!!!)

These are pretty cool
A new crispy version of the Air Force 1 to report with this Supreme SP in black and purple. The iconic AF1 has been one of the most visible mainstays over the years and with this version comes a bit of Huarache-influenced aesthetic. The two-tone upper features a Huarache tongue logo, premium materials and a clear outsole. Through the outsole more references to the Huarache are visible as well. AT&T Trying to Keep iPhone Exclusive Until 2011
The WSJ reports that AT&T is talking to Apple rightthissecond about extending its exclusive iPhone deal until 2011. If you're wondering why they need to extend that "five year deal," here's a refresher. [WSJ]In exchange for its payout, AT&T got a year extension, into 2010, on its exclusive distribution deal with Apple, people familiar with the matter say. Sources asked to not be named because the terms are confidential.
AT&T has exclusive U.S. distribution rights for five years—an eternity in the go-go cellphone world. And Apple is barred for that time from developing a version of the iPhone for CDMA wireless networks.

So what's the true cost of going out and buying a system today? Let's find out.

Cost of 3 extra controllers: $36 x 3 = $108
Cost of 3 Nunchuks: $18 x 3 = $54
Cost of 4 Wii Motion Pluses: $20 x 4 = $80

As you can see, the prices of all three consoles are incredibly close, and you can obviously fiddle with these configurations to change them. If you only want 2 controllers and are planning to only play Wii Sports, the Wii is still the cheapest, but a fully-loaded Xbox 360 with a year of Live is actually cheaper than the fully-loaded Wii (although it's the only console without WiFi, so add $80 if you really need that). And the PS3 is surprisingly close in price, thanks to its controllers having built-in batteries and its free online service. The Nintendo controller scheme really rockets it up in price, and it's pretty amazing that a Wii with 4 controllers is only $24 less than a PS3 with 4 controllers.
So really, it comes down to what you want in a console. But it's surprising to see that, in real-world prices, all three systems will set you back about the same amount, with the Xbox 360 being the cheapest of them all even when you factor in a monthly fee for online gaming.
